Matteo Gilardi

Matteo Gilardi was born in 1986 in Mendrisio – Switzerland.

His work is based on drawing and painting.

 

After the studies at Haute École Art et Desin (HEAD) in Geneva, he develops his art techniques in a traditional way. He could learn the eighteenth-century technique of the “transparents”: oil peintings on waxed canvas with a backlit system.

“Transparent” paintings are typical for the Historical Processions of Mendrisio.

The ancient way needs craft knowledges as mounting frames, preparing colors from pure pigments, interacting acids with metals or mixing reactive solvents.

The art/craft dimention persists in the work of Matteo, and it keep going.
